How To Remove Static Caravan Furniture

A static caravan break or lifestyle can be a thrilling experience providing an endless vacation destination or 2nd home. That is why, once you have made your purchase, you must ensure that the interior fulfils your requirements.

Removing and changing the seating is one of the ways to upgrade and modernise your static caravan. To refresh and modernise the style of your static caravan, you may remove fixed seating and replace it. It is surprisingly easy to remove the seating in a static caravan. I’ll take you through it step by step, using my van as an example.

Estimate the size of the original seats to see if they can fit through the door; otherwise, you’ll need tools to dismantle and eliminate them. Please take photos of the existing seating after measuring so you can recall where and how it was set. This will guarantee that the new seating conceals any dings and is manoeuvrable within the caravan.

Examine the seating attachment to the framework to check if you can dismantle it yourself or if you’ll need to hire a pro. Because most benches and chairs are fastened into the walls, you must unscrew the furniture without ripping up the wooden frames or harming the walls to remove them. If the seats are bolted in or secured into the walls, be mindful that removing them may cause flexing and bulking.

The first job is to get the back off the sofa. There are two screws on either side of each lounge corner, which hold it together. All you need to do is undo these, and the seating will then come out as one piece. While you’re removing the front of the sofa, be careful to keep any storage boxes underneath for future use – there’s normally at least one box on each side.

When this has all been undone, you can pick the front of the seating away from the rear. Be sure to disconnect any wires from lamps, clocks or speakers as you go along. Take care when undoing these and coil them up neatly afterward, so they don’t get tangled.

Once the sofa is completely disconnected, you can pull it out through the door – or if you’re lucky enough to have a bay window, push it outside and fold down the legs. The next bit’s easy:

Undo all the screws along the rear of the seating.
Pick away at one corner until the sofa starts to come away from the wall.
Keep working at it all along one side, then across the back.

When removing fixed seating, there’s normally a gap underneath where you can store loose items – this is one of my favourite features on a caravan! And there you have it – one piece of seating decoupled from the van! Now do the same for the other side.

Of course, some seating is held together with screws along more than just two sides or at more than one point; if this is the case, you may need to take a little more care. It’s still pretty easy, though!

You can select the ideal replacement seats depending on whether you’re changing the damaged seating, reorganising the space, or simply upgrading the look. Now that you’ve properly removed the old seating. The key to retaining comfort and functionality is to keep the room open.

Do not cram all of your seats against a single wall. Rather, mix and match long sofas with embellishments and patterns no longer than 80 inches. A solid colour palette that is then spiced up with ornamental cushions works well. Place the remaining seating in a configuration that is U-shaped with no less than 18 inches of the open pathway.
